The Gold Perfume takes you into the world of perfume thieves, where heists smell like Chanel and the black market for luxury is just one step away from arrest.

Can you smell that? Oh no, it’s a crime

Imagine going to work, sitting at your desk, and thinking, “Today, I’m going to steal some perfume and sell it on the black market.” No? Me neither. But that’s exactly what happens in the quirky world of The Gold Perfume. In this movie, there aren’t any complex machinations like in Ocean’s Eleven. It’s just a guy in Chartres who decides to get rich… fragrantly. Sure, it might seem like a questionable life choice, but when the company you work for hands you access to scents worth thousands of euros, temptation is just too strong, right? Our protagonist isn’t exactly the flowers and love letter type. He prefers stolen perfume bottles. Subtle, but deadly.

Crime with a whiff of Chanel

Imagine a life where you’re not just stealing to survive but doing it with flair. In this film, the protagonist manages to blend the refined world of luxury perfumes with the grimy world of the black market. Bottles of priceless fragrances become his weapon of choice, and while he juggles heists, accomplices, and temptation, the story never gets too heavy. There’s a lightness, an irony, almost like the audience is invited to laugh along with the crime... because, let’s face it, stealing perfume does have a certain elegance. The narrative flows through refined atmospheres and twists that make you think, "I did not see that coming."

A nose for business... and trouble

In The Gold Perfume, we follow a man who has no intention of living an ordinary life. Instead, he works for a luxury perfume company and realizes that selling these scents on the black market is way more profitable than his monthly paycheck. Before you know it, he’s knee-deep in a series of increasingly daring heists, with tension rising with every stolen bottle. Despite the risk of being caught, his thievery goes unnoticed, at least until things get complicated. The film takes us on a fragrant odyssey, where every step is accompanied by the delicate aroma of crime.

A luxurious plot with a hint of danger

The Gold Perfume is an intriguing mix of irony and suspense, with a plot that explores the fine line between legality and the black market. Visually, the film is a feast for the eyes: the elegant and sophisticated tones of the luxury perfume world contrast with the shadowy undertones of crime, creating an engaging atmosphere. The cinematography captures the essence of these high-end perfumes and the exclusive setting of Chartres perfectly. The costumes, set details, and soundtrack round out the experience, making this movie a little gem. If you're someone who loves a good twist (and a good scent), this film will entertain you in style. It even sneaks in a few reflections on human flaws and the desire to get rich at all costs.

Why I Recommend It

I recommend it because this film explores the darker side of human desire: the greed for wealth, the thrill of illegality, and the art of outsmarting the system, all wrapped in irony and dream-worthy perfumes.

Why I Don't Recommend It

I don’t recommend it if you’re not into sympathizing with a perfume thief. The movie plays heavily on human flaws and morality... or lack thereof.
