"Goyo", by Marcos Carnevale, is a film that blends art, love, and neurodivergence in a vibrant Buenos Aires. A young man with Asperger's discovers love and acceptance in unexpected ways.

Goyo: a masterpiece by Carnevale

If you're tired of the same old love stories, then "Goyo" is the film for you! Marcos Carnevale takes us to Buenos Aires, where Goyo, a museum guide with Asperger's syndrome and an obsession with Van Gogh, has his orderly life turned upside down by the arrival of Eva, a new security guard. Between awkward moments and hilarious situations, Goyo and Eva learn that true love is all about acceptance and understanding.

Goyo is a young man with a very structured life, marked by his passion for art and painting. His daily routine, seemingly unchangeable, is put to the test when he finds himself having to interact with Eva, who brings with her an emotional baggage due to her complicated past. Carnevale, with the delicacy of a surgeon and the subtlety of an elephant in a china shop, manages to stage a meeting that seems impossible. Nicolás Furtado and Nancy Dupláa shine in their roles, delivering performances that oscillate between tender and ridiculous.

The film's narrative moves smoothly between moments of pure fun and emotionally charged scenes, keeping the viewer glued to the screen. The choice of Buenos Aires as the backdrop for this story adds an additional layer of depth and authenticity, making it even more engaging. If you're looking for a love story that surprises and makes you think, "Goyo" is definitely the film you can't miss.

Carnevale gives us a film that manages to touch deep chords, offering a unique perspective on inclusion and diversity. A journey through art and love, where every detail is meticulously crafted, making "Goyo" an unforgettable movie.

From the museum to love: Goyo's journey

Goyo is a likable guy, but social interactions aren't his strong suit. He much prefers Van Gogh's paintings to conversations with colleagues. And then comes Eva, a woman carrying emotional baggage as heavy as an art collection.

Goyo: more than just a love story

Don't expect the usual love story. "Goyo" is a journey through inclusion and diversity, a mix of laughter and tears that will make you reconsider what it really means to love someone. With Buenos Aires as a backdrop like a vibrant palette of colors, Carnevale reminds us that love doesn't follow rules and that every story deserves to be told.

The narrative of "Goyo" stands out for its depth and authenticity. Marcos Carnevale, the director, has managed to create a story that, while remaining accessible and entertaining, does not trivialize the complex dynamics of autism and interpersonal relationships. Goyo, masterfully portrayed by Nicolás Furtado, is a character defined not just by his condition, but by his humanity, vulnerability, and strength. His passion for art, and particularly for Van Gogh, becomes a means through which he expresses emotions that are otherwise difficult to communicate.

Eva, played by Nancy Dupláa, is an equally complex character. Her personal story, marked by a failed marriage and the weight of her insecurities, intertwines with Goyo's in a way that feels natural and sincere. Their relationship, which begins uncertainly and awkwardly, develops into a deep and meaningful connection that challenges social conventions and expectations.

The film's cinematography is breathtaking, with glimpses of Buenos Aires adding an almost poetic dimension to the story. The scenes in the museums, in particular, are shot with an attention to detail that reflects Goyo's love for art. The soundtrack, delicate and enveloping, perfectly accompanies the protagonists' journey, highlighting moments of introspection and joy.

Carnevale demonstrates great sensitivity in dealing with the theme of neurodivergence. "Goyo" does not try to simplify the experiences of autistic people but represents them in all their complexity. The film manages to balance light moments with deeper reflections, creating a work that is both entertaining and educational.

IThe overall verdict on "Goyo" is extremely positive. It is a film that touches the heart of viewers, making them reflect on the beauty of differences and the importance of acceptance. With a well-written screenplay, convincing performances, and attentive direction, "Goyo" stands out as one of Carnevale's best works..

I recommend it because "Goyo" is a breath of fresh air in the romantic comedy scene. It's a film about inclusion and acceptance that will make you laugh and cry at the same time.(

Why I don't recommend it

I don't recommend it because, if you have the patience of a hyperactive hamster, the slow and introspective scenes of "Goyo" might make you want to scroll through TikTok. But, hey, not every movie can be a high-speed chase.
