Kizuna Expo in Rome was a celebration of Japan, but with a surprisingly limited menu. Discover what to expect in this ironic analysis.
Kizuna Expo: a festival or a buffet?
When I heard about Kizuna Expo, I imagined an event that would mix culture, art, and Japanese traditions. Spoiler: we found ourselves in an open-air Japanese restaurant.
What does Japan taste like?
The premises were exciting, but the result was disappointing. If you wanted to listen to traditional musicians, prepare to be let down.
A Culinary Journey with No Return
Kizuna Expo focused almost exclusively on food. From ramen to sushi, every dish was a testament to Japanese cuisine. But where were the authentic dancers and musicians? An event of this magnitude deserved a little more culture and a little less buffet!
Food, food, and more food
As we savored delicious dishes, the lack of an authentic Japanese atmosphere was felt. Our minds wandered between expectations and reality. The Japanese would surely have added a touch of magic.
Why I Recommend It
I recommend it because if you love Japanese food and want to try new specialties, this is the right place.
Why I Don't Recommend It
I don’t recommend it because if you’re looking for an authentic cultural experience, you might be disappointed. Expect more dishes than shows.
